Sourcing and Inspiration

Whether you're building with new or used parts, the right source can make a huge difference in how your custom bicycle build works. Also, there are tons of people who explain how to fix or build out bicycles particularly well. These are some of our favorite sources for tools, parts, and information. And, this is a very incomplete list as we always find new partners to work with.

Parts & Tools

  • Bike Recyclery - "High End 365 Bike Swap: Vintage & Modern" - Great selection of vintage bicycle tools and parts.

  • Boise Bicycle Project - If you're in the Boise area, BBP is the place to find old bicycles, frames, wheels, parts, and knowledgeable friendly folks who are willing to help you build a bicycle that's going to last.

  • Park Bicycle Tools - There are certain tasks, chain removal and installation, that simply need specific tools in order to complete without wrecking your bike or hands. Park Bicycle Tools are my favorite.

Information

  • Seth's Bike Hacks - Fantastic YouTube channel to learn how to ride and fix your mountain and bmx bicycles.

  • Sheldon Brown - Great source for information about everything to keep your road, race, and mountain bike running. He gets into gear ratios, bottom bracket specs, and skid patterns for fixed gear bicycles.

Inspiration & Entertainment

  • Beauty and the Bicycle YouTube Playlist - bicycle films, shorts, and videos to inspire whatever excites you about bicycling (when you're stuck in front of a screen instead of behind your handlebars).

  • The Morning Ride Podcast - Jeffery Oliver, of Oliver Bicycle Works, produces a daily podcast called "The Morning Ride" that he records on his bicycle commute into the office. It's unscripted, unedited, highly personal, and sometimes about bicycling.
